Chhandayan Classes & Workshops

• Each academic year starts from September and ends in June. Intensive Summer classes are offered during July and August.
    
• Students are interviewed before admission. Level is determined based on their performance in the interview.
   
• Group classes are held in three levels - Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The size of each group class is restricted to 10 students. Based on achievement, students are promoted to the next level, or not.
   
• Once admitted, registration is required. To register in group classes duly filled in form for the specific class and session along with advanced payment for the entire session or rest of the session are need to be submitted. If more than one person is registering from the same family, 10% discount is offered on the second student and 15% on the third student. College students paying for their own tuition, may approach us for special discount, if needed. There is always a $2 fee for every registration. For private lessons there is a one-time $10 registration fee. Tuition for each private lesson should be paid at the beginning of the lesson.
   
• We prefer payment is in cash. If paying in check, it should be made out as instructed in the registration form. Credit cards are also accepted with a 3% additional fee.
   
• Graduation day for 2008 is scheduled to be Sunday, June 29th from 12 to 5 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton, 50 Cherry Hill Road, Princeton, New Jersey 08540.

  Special News

  May 1st, 2007 -

  Today I taught the first successful online lesson with a student situated in Tokyo, Japan. It was 7 to 8 a.m. New York time and 9 to 10 p.m. Tokyo time. The student was not an absolute beginner and his concentration was quite good. We were able to accomplish quite a bit - a Delhi Qayeda with the theme in single and double times, 5 variations and the tehai; the Theka of Tintaal and the first Tukra (dhadha  tuntun), which I now call 'Jingle Bell of Tabla'. He already has the book to add to the lesson. Hope you will feel encouraged to hear this. - Samir Chatterjee

Presently only one class is held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. because all of the registered students fit well in that small group.

Daily schedule : 10 a.m.- 1.00 p.m. and 2.30 - 5.30 p.m.. On the 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th evening sessions may be held from 7 to 9 p.m.. On the 6^th session will start at 10 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. with an hour of lunch break from 12 to 1 p.m.

Workshop Registration Fee:

On or before June 4th: $ 362 ($277 for any 3 days, $187 for any 2 days & $ 97 for one day).

After June 4th : $ 377 ($ 287 for any three days, $197 for any 2 days & $102 for one day)

Transportation :  The venue wouldn't be too far from Pittsburgh airport. It will also be easily accessible from the surrounding highways.  

Accommodation : There are plenty of reasonably priced hotels available in the area.

Food : Food is at your own expense. We usually go out together for lunch and dinner.
